Backpacker Mentality

What kind of person makes the perfect backpacker?

1. Are you flexible?
Or maybe you are a bit uptight, not necessarily a person who enjoys the lack of routines? Situations are changing all the time and if you don't like it, you might notice a certain drop in your overall happiness in a short time. Flexible, positive mindset is more beneficial.

2. Do you enjoy meeting different people?
Or maybe people are not exactly your thing? However, you will meet many many, different kinds of people all the time. One day your roommates are perfect, normal and lovely, the next day you finally understand how some people become mad serial killers. Even ordinary girls like you might end up that way under some pressure and provocation. You simply can't control what kind of people are going to invade your personal space and I guess we all know what a huge impact the people around you have on your well-being.

3. Privacy versus ”what's privacy?”
When you share the room with several people, there is no such thing as privacy, so you can completely forget about the concept. Your roommates will know everything about you, probably even more than you know yourself. You keep waking up in the night when your roommates return from their nocturnal activities, in the morning you'll notice that suddenly there are 10 persons in that 8 people dorm and you start to suspect that the earthquake in the night wasn't an earthquake at all but your bed kept rocking because of other kind of quakes. If you don't care much about privacy and you don't get embarrassed easily, then backpacking is just the thing for you.

4. How are your job seeking skills?
Are you a natural communicator, is it easy for your to market your own skills and competences even if they are non-existent, do you like talking with people, like being the center of attention, is it easy for you to distribute your CV in person to potential employers? If yes, well, you won't have problems here. Australia loves energetic, fresh people who can smile from dusk till dawn non-stop and engage in small talk at any given moment. If, however, you see a shy, a bit serious, antisocial person in the mirror and that person doesn't even enjoy being with other people and admits that the whole act of speaking is overrated, you could be in for trouble. At least make sure you have enough money to last you for the duration of the indented trip.

5. Do you have a healthy relationship with money?
Or are you extremely neurotic when it comes to money, a person who doesn't want to see the hard-earned savings diminishing day after day until there isn't much left? Well, then you just need to be the social type that finds a well-paid job just anywhere you go and you'll be OK. Otherwise you'll be gritting your teeth throughout your trip, never fully able to enjoy the experience, being worried about your account balance.
One million, two millions, who cares
All in all, the perfect backpacker is flexible, social and not too worried about money. It's that simple.
