No title

It's unbelievable we've been here one week already. Yesterday we opened bank accounts in ANZ bank. Anna had read that many other backpackers recommended ANZ even though it doesn't really matter which bank we have the account in, as we don't have any money to deposit. We just chose the first bank we visited because the guy who helped us there was so nice and helpful and because the only document they needed to see to open an account was our passports. Let's see if we'll be happy with the choice later on. At least their customer service was excellent. Then again, we have Poland to compare to. After the rude and indifferent service we got there, we can truly appreciate the individuals who make an effort for their customers, even for the penniless ones.

Look at the lovely blue water!
Yesterday we also submitted our applications for medicare card that entitles us for discount on certain medical services. They only needed our passports and visas to process the application. The card should arrive in a couple of weeks, meanwhile we can use a temporary card they printed for us. A very patient lady in the office explained us how to fill in the application (and how to access wifi). Come on, I've been filling applications all my life, even in languages that I don't understand or can't even read. This one wasn't particularly challenging. Besides, I was under the assumption that I can at least use my own smart phone, even to access wifi,

In the evening we thought to treat ourselves to a beer after such a productive day. Unfortunately we didn't take into account that local Aldi can't sell anything that contains alcohol. What the fuck? Didn't see this one coming. There is a country that patronizes its citizens even more than Finland. So, we walked back to the hostel and asked the guys where they buy their beer. The supply seems to be unlimited.. They gave us directions to a bottle shop that had closed 8 p.m. Nice, we were there 8:15. Feeling quite disappointed and let down we bought non-alcoholic ginger beer in a convenience store and decided that tomorrow we are so not going to miss the opportunity to get a real beer. Unbelievable. No beer in supermarkets. For the past 2 years I've been living in countries where they sell even vodka in a supermarket. Especially Poland is relatively relaxed in that aspect and Monopolowy is ready to serve its thirsty customers 24/7.

We moved to a new room that's only for girls. Great. Finally we got rid of dirty and smelly hiking boots and the general mess the guys had created in their room. Girls' dormitory is so clean I could cry out of joy. In addition, we both have now bottom beds we've been waiting for a week. I feel like I'm not going to move out of the room anytime soon. The rumor has it one guy has been living in this hostel for a year now but maybe we are not going to stay that long after all.

Today we went to Chinatown. We are in such a holiday mood. I'm sure it's solar energy affecting us. It's a pity the sun sets already around 5 p.m. Nevertheless, this is the best winter ever!
