The Argentinian mafia will take care of it

Did your computer get looted overnight? Did other important belongings go missing at the same time? No worries, the Argentinian mafia will take care of it. Offering reliable and fast crime investigation, naturally tailored to fit the customer's needs. Like I told in my previous post, a thief came over in Sunday night. Some girl living in the hostel had opened the door to the guy who lied to her that he had forgotten his key in the room.

When I came home from my shopping tour in the morning, the Argentinians in our hostel and all their numerous friends from outside had sat together and started to solve the mystery. The thief was captured on the surveillance camera and that's how all began. During the day the Argentinian mafia found out that the guy had lived in our hostel but the manager kicked him out after he was found guilty of drawing a graffiti on a wall. Argentinian people seem to be the most social on the Earth and soon the thief's name and identity was found through someone's facebook account. After that a letter addressed to him was found at the reception. The letter contained the motive for the crime, money. The fellow had received a fine for driving without a valid licence.

The thief had a colleague whose identity was established before dusk. Then there was some discussion about what to do and how to get the stolen goods back. Our guys were planning to send a blackmail letter to the thief, something like ”We know you took our kettle from the kitchen yesterday night 3 am. Bring it back to this and this place or we will go to the police.” In the end a message was sent to him, telling him that his secret was out and he'd better hand over the ill-begotten goods ASAP.

Unfortunately I had to go to sleep in the middle of this all too interesting crime drama but in the morning I learned that the thief had met our mafia t Kings Cross station and given back passports and other stuff he had taken. According to his own story he did not mean to take anything, the stuff kind of left with him without him noticing a thing. For sure he has some problems with too sticky fingers.

Once again I have a reason to wonder the mentality of the Argentinian people. I have never ever in my life met as resourceful people. While it might be true that getting to know Argentina has also brought me some sadness and anger, I must say the life here would be a lot less colorful without our South American travel companions.
